WEAPONS USED IN WAR
The older weapons the soldiers used were some of the most powerful weapons invented in world history. The weapons mostly used were swords, slings, and axes. There were numerous versions of swords and each had their own significance to them. There were two main swords though. A straight version was used for stabbing so its medal blade was pointed at the tip and was sharp at the two edges. The striking sword was sharpened only along one edge and curved to slice as it was pulled back. The axe was also very important. The main axe used was the battle-axe. It had a very dense blade for cutting. The sling was one of the smallest weapons but also was on of the most effective. It was made from two leather strings attached. You would place a stone in the pocket and fling at a target. These were some of the most useful weapons used in war.
In the 1600 B.C.E the Egyptians learned about the two most effective weapons the chariot and the composite bow. The chariot was the newest weapon they used. It was a mobile platform that was pulled by two horses and gave a great advantage compared to the soldier against foot soldiers. On the chariot was a driver and a soldier who was mastered at targeting. The composite bow was a very good weapon. It could shoot 890 feet. It was the most dangerous weapon of its time. The composite bow was made from a strip of sinew, the core of wood, a layer of birch bark, and a strip of horn. The string was either twisted sinew or gut. To protect the soldiers from these very harmful weapons they had shields. There was a very protective shield and a flimsy shield. The protective shield was very heavy and on the other hand the other was very light and flimsy. Both type shields went from your chin to your knee. These very few weapons were the very best weapons of that time.
